This Nordstrom mall has nothing to offer for me. Where in SF I can find basic household stuff (cleaning eq, light bulbs etc.)

Probably a super market is your best bet but I'm not sure what's out there. Shop Rite maybe? Or look for a CVS...

Yeah that'll definitely do. Not that big on the east coast but I remember seeing a few out there. Enjoying SF so far? :)

Go to a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods for relatively cheap organic groceries and some household stuff...also there must be one of those mega-sized regular grocery stores somewhere around there? Wallgreens, K-Mart, even Wallmart if you must. Oh yeah, and gas stations/kiosks can sell you aspirin/other mild medicines.

Bike in U.S.? I've heard that biking (apart from few dedicated bike routes) is pretty much a suicide in America. Have you tried riding yet? How did it go?

Otto, this is San Francisco, there are even bars where you can park your bike inside. On par or better than Helsinki, but not on the same level as Netherlands or Oulu.
I tried biking here yesterday. Loving it.
